MEDITATION
Why Meditate?
Wisdom is not something monolithic, monumental and out of reach. Wisdom in this tradition is the unobstructed quality in our experience. It is being able to cut through and perceive, able to get beyond ourselves, able to expand and explore, to see clearly and work skillfully with whatever comes up.
Usually we don't listen to our own wisdom. We don't allow situations to unfold. We react impulsively according to our fixed ideas. We categorize and interpret.
The practice of meditation is to lay a strong foundation for wisdom to unfold, and peace is the view, peace is the theme. And advanced meditation means we are able to appreciate what is happening on a bigger scale.
We are more insightful.
Our mind and heart are able to feel openly, without obstruction. This enables us to discriminate, and it gives us the wisdom we need to work with ourselves and others.
In mindfulness practice, we lessen the speed. And at some point awareness unfolds. This is discovering natural wisdom. It comes from opening our mind to being in the present.
Then as we proceed, that thread of naturalness is always there. It provides the continuity. And in the process, we always come back to the foundation - being in the present. This is the view. We train over and over in view - how to really listen to, understand and appreciate our body, speech, and mind. The ground is always understanding our body, and understanding how our mind works.
And even just being inquisitive about who we are, how we are, where we are, and what we are begins to lay the seeds of mindfulness-awareness. It begins to build our dignity and strength.
So mindfulness is our practice, and peace is the theme free from struggle, and settling in. With a little practice, this evolves into clear perception and confident awareness.
