Mary Whetsell
Chair of the Membership Policy and Communications Working Groups
Mary, Pema Thapkhe, Skillful Means Lotus, is a founder and recently retired Director of the Birmingham Shambhala Center, as well as its current Treasurer. She holds a PhD in Counseling Psychology and is a Licensed Psychologist. Mary has been in private practice from 1996 to present. She is an executive trainer and coach in the Community Leadership Institute of the Southeast, and served on the AIDS Task Force of Alabama ( 1996 - 2001. Before that she was the Director of the,Drug Abuse Treatment Programs and Director of Clinical Training of the Federal Medical Center, Bureau of Prisons, United States Department of Justice, an Instructor with the bureau's Critical Incidents & Victims' Assistance Training Program (1990-1995); and served on the Board of Directors of the Lexington Rape Crisis Center (1989-1994).
