Oddone Marsiaj

Brazilian born and educated in Porto Alegre in the south of Brazil, Oddone has been a buddhist for twenty years and a member of the Sao Paulo Shambhala sangha for fourteen years. In 1985, he first took refuge with the Jodo Shinshu Pure Land school, then again with Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche in 1988 who gave him the refuge name Karma Tenzin Nyingje (Dharma Holder Compassion). In 1991, Oddone did his first Shambhala Training. Two years later he met the Sawang who encouraged him to attend the 1994 Vajradhatu Seminary at Shambhala Mountain Center.  In recent years, he has taught Buddhism and Shambhala Trainingin Brazil, and for the last two years he has been the director of the Sao Paulo Shambhala Center. He graduated with a degree in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering from the University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. He then studied business administration at the Institute for Management Development in Lausanne, Switzerland, before earning his MBA at Harvard University in 1969.  For over thirty years, he was a business executive and entrepeneur, including service as Director and General Manager of Finance in Multibanco, a Brazilian investment bank associated with Bank of America.
