Sakyong's Council

Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche The Sakyong’s Council acts under the authority of Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, the spiritual and temporal head of the Shambhala Mandala. The Sakyong is the Director of the First Class of the board of directors. Following discussions on mandala structure and governance at the First Shambhala Congress in November 2003, work began on a new governing structure for Shambhala based on mandala principle. A new structure, to be in effect for two years, was approved by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche in December 2004 and took effect on Shambhala Day 2005. The body responsible in the new structure for the overall governance of the mandala, fulfilling also the legal and financial responsibilities of a board of directors, is the Sakyong’s Council. It is chaired by the President of Shambhala on behalf of the Sakyong.
