Basic Goodness Series II: How Can I Help?
with Alan Schwartz
January 11 / 10:45 AM - January 25 / 4:00 PM
The Basic Goodness Series - Offered for the first time in Sonoma!
The Basic Goodness series offers a sustained reflection on the meaning of basic goodness as it relates with our sense of self, others, and reality. Directly investigating the nature of the self, relationship and society, and reality can be a helpful clarifier for newer practitioners and an excellent deepening for students who are well on the path of practice.
Price: $120 General Public; $75 Full-time Students. All are welcome regardless of ability to pay. Refer to our Generosity Policy at this location.
For those who can offer more than the program price, we have a "Patron Donation" of $180. Your generosity in offering the patron price helps cover the costs for other who are not able to pay the full price. Thank you!
Prerequisite: No prerequisites. This class is open to anyone who has received basic meditation instruction.
In this course we explore our relationships with others. How do we envision a good human society? We will look at our aspiration to help our world, and at specific aspects of social transformation. Our course focuses on four aspects of society: relations with family (household), professional life, entertainment, and economy.
The emphasis in this weekend is on our modern experience of living in a global society. Is society something that is ultimately selfish, confused, and problematic? During the program, we will learn the traditional mahayana Buddhist practice of tonglen, the practice of "sending and taking."
The Basic Goodness Series is considered preparation for Enlightened Society Assembly and is, therefore, also a pre-requisite for Warrior Assembly and Sacred World Assembly
Payment will be due in full at the door at the first session. To request a discounted fee, please contact Marci McCormick at firstname.lastname@example.org at least five days before that date.
