Special Awake Providence!
Singer/songwriters Christa Joy and Dan Glenn are hitting the road this summer to share some of their Shambhala-inspired music with old friends and new at Shambhala Centers. Please join us for an evening of acoustic music featuring each musician playing a set of original songs and singing together as well. Christa and Dan met in Boston at a the center's Under Thirty Group long, long ago when they were both under thirty and shortly thereafter attended a dathün (month-long meditation retreat) together.
Christa Joy is a songwriter and Kindergarten teacher in the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts. She is a member of the Woman Songwriter Collective and is currently awaiting the release of her second album this summer. Her first album, Ready or Not (2012), reflects Christa’s journey from California to Massachusetts, where she moved to live near her mother, who was then living with cancer. Christa’s songwriting explores themes of impermanence, transcience, ordinary magic, and the nature of being human. You can learn more about Christa’s music atwww.christajoymusic.com and listen to her first full album at christajoy.bandcamp.com.
Dan just released his second album, You Dream of Kingdoms, which is a collection of songs he wrote while living and working at Karmê Chöling, a Shambhala retreat center in Vermont. These songs are about how our experience as human beings is worth celebrating, in all its beauty, complexity, tenderness and sadness. They are reflections on living in a genuine, awake way in the face of all the challenges we face on both a personal and global level. His debut album, Burning For Music, was released in 2006. You can learn more about Dan's music at www.danglenn.com and listen to the new album at danglenn.bandcamp.com.
