Dorje Kasung Open House (Westside)
May 10 / 3:00 PM - May 10 / 6:00 PM
How Dare You
Be a tiger.
Lick the Wilkinson sword.
Join together with thunderbolt.
I am so proud to be one of the Kasung.
–Makkyi Rabjam Dorje Dradul of Mukpo
This poem by Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche expresses the audacious and romantic energy of the Dorje Kasung tradition. Founded by Trungpa Rinpoche in 1974, the Dorje Kasung continues today as the protection pillar of the Shambhala mandala. It is both a vital service to the community and a very rich path of practice.
As an organization, the Dorje Kasung serves as protector of the teachers, the teachings, and the community. As a practice, Kasungship is a deep means of engagement with the path of enlightened warriorship, the bodhisattva vow, and the vajrayana path. With “Victory Over War” as its motto, the Dorje Kasung uses western military forms to experience, express, and transmit the joyful, sharp edge of nowness, and thereby strengthen discipline of meditation-in-action.
All Shambhala members are encouraged to understand the purpose and activities of the Dorje Kasung, regardless of any interest in joining. To learn more about Kasungship, all members are warmly invited and encouraged to attend a special Dorje Kasung Open House.
While there is no charge for this event, if you plan to attend, please register so we can plan for refreshments. For more details, contact John Beard, acting Rusung, Shambhala Center, Los Angeles Westside.
