Sunday Community Night

Curious about our center? Want to learn meditation instruction? Come visit us on Sunday nights where we offer introductory instruction, contemplation and discussion.


Even if you have had meditation instruction, come join us for a good reminder of shamatha meditation followed by great conversations based off of contemplations from various Shambhala books.


Schedule:



  • 6:00 -6:30 Shamatha meditaion instruction begins promptly at 6:00. We will sit for 20 minutes and follow it with a 10 minute walking meditation.

  • 6:30-7:00 Contemplation from a selected text and shamatha meditation.

  • 7:00-8:00 A discussion will be facilitated by the leader about the contemplation that was read. Tea and light snacks will be provided.


Dress is casual (nothing special)!  We have plenty of different types of cushions for different bodies, or you can also sit in a chair. Over time you’ll discover what works best for you. 


This program is open to all. We humbly accept any donation you are willing to offer or any snacks that you feel inclined to contribute to our food and discussion.

Schedule:



  • 6:30 – 7:30 pm:  Shamatha (calm abiding) meditation, often with a period of walking meditation in the middle.

  • 6:30 pm:  Free meditation instruction is provided in a separate room.

  • 7:30 – 8:15 pm:  Open House talk.  Topics vary, but these talks often provide a basic introduction to the path of meditation and the Shambhala Buddhist lineage.  Talks are free and open to the public.


We begin sitting meditation (“shamatha”, which means “calm abiding” or “peaceful abiding”) at 6:30 pm, followed by an Open House Talk at 7:30 and tea around 8:15.  You may come only for sitting or just for the talk, as you wish.


Free meditation instruction is offered for new visitors, every Thursday at 6:30 pm.  It begins in a separate room so you can ask questions before joining the main group.


On the 3rd Thursday of each month (also at 6:30 pm), in addition to offering beginning meditation instruction, follow-up meditation instruction is available.  If you have received instruction, and have questions about the technique or meditation in general, this is an opportunity to receive additional practice information from a trained meditation instructor.


Dress is casual (nothing special)!  We have plenty of different types of cushions for different bodies, or  you can also sit in a chair. Over time you’ll discover what works best for you.
