Shambhala Training Retreat: The Four Dignities
with John Rockwell
November 6 / 12:00 AM - November 13 / 12:00 AM
The four dignities lay out the stages of the path of warriorship. They are qualities that are innate to our own body, mind, and windhorse. Connecting with the energy and insight of each dignity brings further embodiment and deeper understanding of who we are and how to enjoy and engage the world. This program will combine sitting meditation, windhorse practice, study of a Shambhala treasure text (terma), sensory and outdoor explorations, and spending time with each other as a community of warriors in the world.
We will be spending a good amount of time outdoors, so please bring warm, waterproof clothing and good waterproof shoes/boots. Qigong (Eva Wong's lineage) will be offered before breakfast each morning for those interested in learning this form. It is optional. We will be doing other body exercises, so please bring loose comfortable clothing for moving around inside.
This program is offered as one continuous retreat, but there are three parts that could be taken separately.
Meek grounds us in our heart. We train to overcome arrogance and uncover our inherent gentleness and friendliness. We cannot move forward without the energy of brave humbleness.
Perky moves by leaps and bounds. Discipline becomes a natural expression of our inspiration. We are naturally curious to explore and face our doubts and hesitations. The path is delightful.
Outrageous and Inscrutable
Discovering the outrageous and inscrutable qualities of our heart, we are not afraid to leap into space and to do whatever needs to be done. Our small minded attachment to self-centered agendas dissolve, yet the smallest details of benefit are cultivated. Vastness and precision come together, beyond our hopes and fears. The Four Dignities describe how warriors develop insight and strength that enables them to further shed their cocoons and engage fully in the world. Understanding how the dignities unfold can inspire one's journey and enable one to discern, with awareness and delight, one's progress on the path.
This program is offered as one continuous retreat, but each part can be taken separately.
The programs begins at 7:30pm on November 6th and November 13th is a departure day, you are free to leave anytime.
