Milarepa Day

March 15 / 8:30 AM - March 15 / 8:15 PM

On Milarepa Day, the Rain of Wisdom: The Vajra Songs of the Kagyu Gurus, a text translated under the guidance of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, is chanted in a group aloud. The reading continues throughout the day. Participants are free to come and go as they like.

These are the tales of the great Tibetan saints and siddhas -- the eccentric, utterly realized gurus of our lineage. Tilopa, who lived on a river bank; Marpa the Translator who journeyed from Tibet to India three times to bring back the teachings; Milarepa, the murderer and hermit yogi who turned green from eating nothing but nettle soup for years, before emerging to teach.

These stories are our heritage, and we celebrate them by reading them, together. By reading aloud the stories of these teachers we simultaneously invoke their presence and learn from their examples.
