Fear and Fearlessness: A Warrior's Approach to Death
with Eric Spiegel
February 21 / 7:00 PM - February 23 / 1:00 PM
Join senior teacher Archarya Eric Spiegel for a practical exploration of Buddhist teachings on Death, dying and relating with the groundlessness of life.
Change in general, and the time of death in particular, are moments fraught with anxiety but also filled with potential. The Buddhist teachings say that times of transition – intermediary times known as “bardo” -- are moments when we can experience great freedom and possibility, but instead what we usually do is freeze and freak out, at even just the thought of it. In this program we will explore the rawness of death and change, and practice bravery where we usually find uncertainty.
Acharya Eric Spiegel is among a small number of Western teachers empowered by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche as a senior teacher (Acharya) representing the Shambhala lineage. He has been teaching the Shambhala Dharma since the mid 1970s. Eric has worked extensively with the ill and dying, helping them to realize their wisdom in the face of impermanence, and has had a decades-long career in finance. He lives in a very old house in rural New York State.
