Direct Perception - The Creative Process
with Jerry Granelli & Barbara Bash Alan Syliboy
June 25 / 5:00 PM - June 29 / 4:00 PM
Join us in exploring the Creative Process in all art forms. With mindfulness-based practical exercises, we'll learn to enhance our perception, creative courage, awareness, and unhindered expression. Three of the most provocative creativity teachers will lead us, sharing their unique, experiential workshop practices designed to help us see and experience the world - and our own creative power - with fresh eyes.
Direct Perception will feature experiential workshops that will benefit new, experienced, and aspiring artists, and anyone wanting to explore and strengthen their creative expression. Please join us for this special opportunity to live, learn, and practice our art forms together.
Jerry Granelli is a master and legend of free jazz. He is not only a musician, but a composer and a teacher, playing drums, or anything he can make musical sounds with, nonstop since the 1940s. Of his process, he says, “Let go of what you want it to be. let go of how you think it to should be. even let go of your vision."
Alan Syliboy is both an accomplished visual artist and a musician. Looking to the indigenous mi’kmaq petroglyph tradition for inspiration, he developed his own artistic vocabulary from those forms. His work speaks to the subjects of family, searching, struggle, and strength. All of these things are part of his art, and his art gives him strength for a continuing spiritual quest.
Barbara Bash is a calligrapher, illustrator and teacher who leads classes in field sketching, communication practices, as well as the popular Big Brush workshops where participants learn to trust their own creative instincts while working with enormous horsehair brushes and great buckets of ink.
