Summer Retreat with Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche
“Life is Ceremony”

This retreat is not just a retreat: it’s a new kind of gathering to which Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche is inviting us, inspired by his new book, The Shambhala Principle. It is about turning our meditative insight into social ceremony, an opportunity to create an enlightened society on the spot, on the beautiful and sacred grounds of Dechen Chöling.

Sakyong Mipham says that the question is not to determine if the world can become enlightened or not; such a question brings doubt and anxiety, and paralyses our society.

The issue here is to have the courage to act NOW, with a firm intention to manifest Basic Goodness in what we think, feel and do. It starts with the most ordinary gentleness and rises up to great loving kindness for all beings. It happens all the time.

This retreat will offer us numerous occasions to mix meditative insights with social interaction, in order to strengthen our confidence. In addition, with traditional meditation practice and dharma talks, we will engage with each other at the deepest level, by developing our qualities of Body, Speech and Mind.

Workshops

Body and speech workshops will help us to overcome our shyness, trusting space and daring to express ourselves in front of others. The workshops will cover many disciplines, from body and voice to singing, dancing and clown work.

Workshops for the mind will be focused on exploring basic goodness in our communication. There will be exploration of the non-violent communication skills and conversations with members of the community to bring forward the qualities of his or her path and then include all participants in the conversation.

Teachers, guests and helpers will all participate in the community, sharing their skills.

Families and children

Some workshops will be open to children and parents, and specific events will be created with parents to include their children in this atmosphere of celebration. Childcare will be offered for the youngest children.

Celebration of the Shambhala community... and meeting Sakyong Mipham

The presence of Sakyong Mipham will be our inspiration throughout the retreat.

This festival is also a celebration of the spirit of the members of Shambhala. There will be dialogue and exchange, between the many cultures and nationalities that reflect the wealth of our European and international community. This helps people create deeper links, get to know one another and highlight the efforts of what each of us is trying to do in their home base to inspire us all.
