Spring City Retreat (Weekthun)

with Cara Thornley
March 30 / 8:30 AM - April 5 / 5:00 PM

The Spring City Weekthun is an opportunity for us to connect deeply with meditation while relating it directly with our regular life. The practice of sitting meditation uncovers the stable, clear and potent quality of our mind. Practitioners of all levels are invited to join us in this week of spacious mind - for the entire week, one day, or one session. Instruction will be available. Attendance at the complete program fulfills the weekthun prerequisite for Shambhala Guide training and Enlightened Society Assembly.

Daily schedule:

8:30 - Noon
1:30 - 4:30
6:00 - 8:00

This program is offered without charge in celebration of Shambhala friend Andy Haas who passed away in January 2013. Andy's family suggested memorial donations to the Shambhala Center. We felt a fitting use of these generous donations was to offer a program that empahsized sitting meditation praction to everyone.  If inspired, you will have the opportunity to make a donation towards a future celebration weekthun to be offered without charge.

The program will be led by Cara Thornley. Cara Thornley, a Shambhala Buddhist teacher, has been a resident of St. Johnsbury since 2010 and previously lived in Barnet where she was employed by Karme Choling Meditation Center.  Currently she volunteers at the St. Johnsbury School as a mentor in the Everybody Wins!  Vermont reading program, and, at the St. Johnsbury Shambhala Center.  She came to the Northeast Kingdom from Atlanta, Georgia, where she lived for over 20 years and held administrative positions, in government, private industry and non profit organizations, including the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals,  Heery and Heery Architects and Engineers, True Colors Theatre Company, and Director of the Atlanta Shambhala Center during its expansion project.  She has been practicing meditation since 1978.
