Winter Solstice Celebration
December 22 / 6:00 PM - December 22 / 10:00 PM
St. Margarets Bay Shambhala Center warmly invites you to a Winter Solstice Celebration and community dinner on Sunday, Dec. 22, 6 pm.
The winter solstice is celebrated by Shambhala Centers around the world. We will celebrate with singing, candlelight ceremony, and uplifted dinner. We’ll supply an organic turkey. You can add to it by bringing a festive dish and bottle to share. Please RSVP so we can arrange for the sit-down dinner.
The Sakyong has said about the winter solstice celebration:
“It is a winter community celebration. A feeling of family, village mentality, a tribe coming together across the generations. This day is a chance to strengthen our community so that it can arise strong for the new year and spring. This sort of winter solstice used to happen in all cultures, but at some point it got mixed with various religious themes. We can return it to its pure and simple roots.”
Sangyam Wendy Friedman says:
"If we are all hoping to establish an enlightened society, it’s so vital that we spend time together that is purely social and celebratory. Our Nyida Days provide us with opportunities to be together as a society, to invite our friends and neighbours in to share our Shambhala culture, and to acknowledge the changing of the seasons. This particular holiday is especially associated with the notion of light.”
We are looking for volunteers to assist with the turkey, decorations and setup. Please call if you can help. We will decorate Friday afternoon, Dec. 20, starting at 6:30 pm.
Bring your family, children, friends, and musical instruments.
I am looking forward to celebrating the return of the light with you on Sunday! Don’t forget to RSVP me with what you’ll bring! Thank you!!
