Contemplative Knitting Retreat
September 27 / 8:00 AM - September 28 / 5:00 PM
As individual knitted stitches come together through shared fibers of connection, so we shall gather to celebrate fellowship, mindful observation of our craft and the joy of shared creative time.
Knitters of all levels are invited to join us as we enjoy knitting as a mindfulness practice. The retreat will flow from one mindful activity to the next as we explore where our yarn comes from with a trip to a nearby (alpaca) fiber farm, cast on for projects designed for mindful contemplation, stretch our bodies with yoga breaks, stretch our minds with meditation, and share in the company of fellow knitters over meals, walks in the wonderful natural surroundings, and knitting by the warmth of the woodstove.
Project ideas and patterns will be available. You are welcome to bring your own project.
Simple lodging, vegetarian meals, and a skein of alpaca yarn from nearby farm (that we will be visiting) is included. Participants are welcome to arrive Friday night too.
Teachers: Molly Stanek has over fifteen years of experience in fiber arts including knitting, crocheting, weaving, and handspinnin yarn, and various methods of dyework. She has served as the President of the Whitewater Fiber Guild for five years and has taught fiber arts classes in a wide variety of settings.
Rebecca McAllister has been part of the Shambhala International community for fifteen years and teaching meditation in churches, schools, public events and anywhere she is asked! Rebecca likes to knit, but not purl, and looking forward to learning the basics
