First Sunday: Extended Sitting Practice, Meditation Instruction Available Free of Charge

January 5 / 9:00 AM - January 5 / 11:30 AM

Opening Chants, Extended Sitting and Walking Meditation, contemplations, discussion and silent tea.  Instruction available free of charge. Open to first-time meditators as well as those who are more experienced.  All are welcome.

Our contemplations and discussion will center around Pema Chodron's newly published book, "How to Meditate: A Practical Guide to Making Friends With Your Mind."

This quote and other gems from Pema's teaching will be used as the basis of our explorations together:

"We do not meditate in order to be comfortable.  In other words, we don't meditate in order to always, all the time, feel good.  I imagine shockwaves are passing through you as you read this, because so many people come to meditation to simply 'feel better.'  However, the purpose of meditation is not to feel bad, you'll be glad to know.  Rather, meditation gives us the opportunity to have an open, compassionate attentiveness to whatever is going on.  The meditative space is like the big sky--spacious, vast enough to accommodate anything that arises."

No charge. Donations, which go a long way toward keeping our center viable, are always welcome.
