CHILDREN'S DAY CELEBRATION
Let's get together for our monthly family gathering at the Shambhala Center along with the entire sangha to celebrate Children's Day on Saturday, December 21st, from 4-6 pm. Children's Day provides a special opportunity to express appreciation for and with our children and to join heaven and earth. You could help your child select of a gift to bring to the Center for an underprivileged child in our community. Or they could offer used clothing or toys for our clothing barrel.
At the heart of the Children's Day festivities is the shrine, the representation of the dignity of the family, the joy and creativity of the youthful heart, and the celebration of the senses. We will create a special Children's Day shrine in the shrine room with special contributions from the children representing earth. Here are a few suggestions: Flowers, candy, handmade decorations, potted plants, home made cookies, and special "treasures" such a dolls and toys.
Because the solstice marks the time of year when the night is longest and daylight has waned, light is a special characteristic of this holiday. We will have a candle-lighting ceremony as part of the festivities. Someone could tell a short story from the heart; it does not have to be read, or you could offer a song or a poem.
A reception will be offered afterward, so could you please bring a dish to share. We will look forward to having a wonderful celebration.
