Public Talk - Tonglen

with Rona Wyatt
December 4 / 7:30 PM - December 4 / 9:30 PM

The topic of this talk is 'Tonglen' - a meditation practice used for cultivating loving-kindness and compassion.  Tonglen practice builds on and extends the practice of shamatha (aka. calm abiding or mindfulness-awareness practice) and involves a step-by-step process of:

  • opening one's heart

  • embracing both the joy and suffering of everyday life, and

  • developing greater empathy for one-self and others.

The roots of Tonglen practice lay in ancient Buddhist teachings. However, it is through the teaching of our Shambhala lineage holders - Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche and Pema Chodron, that this practice is offered and explained to us, and its transformative power and relevance in our modern lives revealed.

The talk will be offered by Rona Wyatt, a student of Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche and meditation instructor.  The evening will begin with a period of meditation practice and finish with refreshments. Anyone new to meditation is welcome and asked to arrive at 7.15pm to receive meditation instruction.
