Magic Black: Embodying Ashe, a Stroke Intensive

“The person of Shambhala who is executing Ashe should fall in love with his or her brush.  If there is no communication with your brush and ink and paper, and you are not able to fall in love with them, or at least be inquisitive about them, then you cannot have a great execution of Ashe....”                                                  Dorje Dradul, The Tiger Lion Garuda Dragon Glory

This passage suggests that one’s hesitation and even embarrassment in doing stroke practice, can be overcome by relaxing and developing an ‘intimate’ relationship with it.  Through demonstration, and two full days of practice, we’ll review and explore the basic and subtle ways to synchronize our body, breath and mind - with brush, ink and paper.

Along with readings and discussions from the Golden Sun of the Great East and the Tiger Lion Garuda Dragon Glory texts, we’ll share our experiences, insights and questions of this profound and essential practice.  Let us celebrate our good fortune to be warriors of the Ashe Clan.

We’ll also take time to go over the care and cleaning of our weapons, as its difficult to ‘make love’, using funky brushes, so please bring a clean one.
