Introduction to Dharma: The Mind and Brain: Different, or the Same?

with David Dubin
October 3 / 7:30 PM - October 3 / 9:00 PM

The Brain—is wider than the Sky—
For—put them side by side—
The one the other will contain
With ease—and You—beside—

The Brain is deeper than the sea—
For—hold them—Blue to Blue—
The one the other will absorb—
As Sponges—Buckets—do—

The Brain is just the weight of God—
For—Heft them—Pound for Pound—
And they will differ—if they do—
As Syllable from Sound—

---   Emily Dickinson

Science shows that meditation clearly cause changes in the brain. There may be brain cells called mirror neurons that help explain compassion. Science calls the whole idea of free will into question. if everything is brain, is there a mind that is separate? These are some of the topics that will be discussed in this talk.
