Learning to work with our anxiety, we are not blocked by fear. Through an exploration of the Buddhist teachings on mind and the nature of reality, we learn to see clearly. We dare to face life and death as they are. The meditator, open to uncertainty, goes beyond the emotions of hope and fear to experience equanimity.

Jay started meditating in the mid-1970s as a student of Chogyam Trungpa, Rinpoche. She first sought meditation as a way to deal with emotional issues and daily struggles, and has assessed her mediation practice by its genuine effects on her life: does it work?
For twelve years, Jay has taught meditation classes in the Shambhala tradition. She is married and the mother of three adult sons plus grandmother to Adam. Retired, she is devoted to practicing visual art; she also teaches meditation to students at Reed College. Jay enjoys building a vegetable garden and is an avid reader.


Lee Scher grew up on the East Coast in Maryland and New York City, and moved to Portland in 2011. He is a student of Sakyong Mipham, and has been a member of the Shambhala community since 1997. He has attended the teacher's academy at Gampo Abbey and has a Masters degree in Contemplative Psychology from Naropa University. Lee is a Mental Health Counselor in private practice.
