Receiving Shambhala Sadhana Transmission

with Daniel Hessey
November 8 / 7:00 PM - November 9 / 7:45 PM

Prerequisites to Practice the Shambhala Sadhana:

  • Non-vajrayana students need to have attended Enlightened Society Assembly

  • Vajrayana students (and those who attended Sutrayana Seminary prior to ESA) will receive the four necessary prerequisites during this one and one-half day program.

The Shambhala Sadhana is what non-vajrayana students receive at Enlightened Society Assembly (ESA). This transmission program with Acharya Hessey is mainly to offer vajrayana students all four prerequisites needed to practice the Shambhala Sadhana:

  • the Shambhala Vow*

  • the Enlightened Society Vow

  • the lung(reading transmission)

  • Sun transmission

The Shambhala Sadhana and both of the vow ceremonies were composed by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche at the conclusion of his 2010 year-long retreat. They are a simple and open entrance into the world and wisdom of Shambhala, and the dawn of a fresh inspiration to radiate a culture of human kindness. This practice is a support to develop doubtless confidence in Basic Goodness and Enlightened Society.

The talk on Friday evening is required, as it gives the view and creates a community environment in which to receive the four prerequisites. On Saturday there will be both of the vows, the lung, a session of the Shambhala Sadhana, a discussion, and a Shambhala Sadhana feast.

*Note: The Shambhala Vow is not the same as the Shambhala Name and Vow ceremony that was given to students in years past. This Shambhala Vow was written by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche in 2010, and is given in the context of receiving the new Shambhala Sadhana.

Shambhala Sadhana Retreat with Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche

Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche will be leading a Shambhala Sadhana Retreat in Boulder on the weekend of December 13-15. This retreat is only open to those who have attended Enlightened Society Assembly, or vajryana students who have received all four of the prerequisites necessary to practice the Shambhala Sadhana.

Besides receiving the prerequisites from Acharya Hessey during this program, Vajrayana students could have received the prerequisites by attending both of the following gatherings with Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche in the past two years: Shambhala Lineage Festival (September 2011) and Shambhala Sadhana Retreat (March 2012).

Arrangements for the generosity policy must be made at least three business days in advance of the program start date – they cannot be made at the registration table. Learn more about the generosity policy here.
