Maitri and the Art of Friendliness:
17 November 2013

Teatcher: Nishant Matthews

17 November 2013

“When you want to know the truth of something, you have to open your heart to it.”

As meditation invites us into the truth of ourselves, there will be times when it is easy to be heartful with what we find, and also times when it is not easy to open the heart to what is there.

This one day workshop is an offering of practical Maitri heartfulness for being with the tough times with yourself. You will learn simple skills for moving through thinking, being with emotions, and opening into the silent inner spaces beyond both.

Additionally you will get a map of how the self unfolds to the quality of attention we offer it. This map is based on the Bardo teachings of Chogyam Trungpa. You will be invited into the journey of the soul from Earth to Water, from Water to Fire, from Fire to Air, and from Air to Space. This movement happens at the time of dying, but with a little attention, we can also recognize it unfolding in daily life. This guidance gives a fresh perspective to the relevance of the Tibetan path in modern Western psychology.

Nishant Matthews is an American therapist currently living in Stockholm. Nishant studied with Trungpa in the 1970s, and has been working as a meditative counselor for the past 35 years.
Nishant has written The Friend: Finding Compassion with Yourself. The Friend is now available in Swedish as Din Inre Vän. Also available in Dutch and German.
