Midsummer Day Celebration: Spectacle Island

June 21 / 10:00 AM - June 21 / 3:00 PM

REGISTRATION IS CLOSED. If you would like to come and you have not registered, please do! Join us at the ticket counter and purchase your own ticket for $15. The ferry leaves at 11:00am. We are meeting at Long Wharf at 10:30am.

The Shambhala community comes together in many ways – to practice, learn, serve others... and to celebrate!

By joining spiritual practice with the practicalities, challenges and joys of everyday life, we aspire to create a society that expresses the dignity of human experience. Midsummer Day is an opportunity for families and friends in Shambhala to celebrate the Summer Solstice together.

Join us once again for a very special Nyida day celebration on Spectacle Island, one of the exquisite Boston Harbor Islands! We will be traveling by ferry as a group before exploring the island offerings on our own. This island hosts many activities including guided tours with a NPS ranger, yoga, kite flying and much more. Detailed information about these and other activities can be found on the island's Web site. We will regroup for lunch, available for purchase on island at Summer Shack, and conclude our event afterwards with a closing bow. Ferries back to Boston depart at or close to the hour with the last departure leaving Spectacle at 4:30. A ferry schedule can be found here:

10:30am - We will be meeting at the Long Wharf pier in downtown Boston at 10:30am to catch the 11:00am ferry to the island.

We will depart the island at 2pm.

If you prefer to arrive/depart at different times you will need to purchase tickets independently at the ticket counter. Please note this when you register so we do not purchase a ticket for you.

For those with special dietary requests bringing your own lunch is recommended. The Summer Shack's island menu is traditional New England seaside faire with items including clam chowder, fish sandwiches, lobster and clam rolls, fried shrimp and scallop baskets, burgers, hot dogs, and chicken sandwiches.

Please bring your own water bottle and sunscreen. There will be extra water and sunscreen available at our site and in the visitors' center for those who need it.

Traditionally, we dress in an uplifted way on Nyida Days as a way of delighting in our own and others' dignity. Please wear comfortable clothing that also inspires wakefulness!

There is not much shelter from rain on Spectacle Island. In case of rain, a postponement or cancellation announcement will happen by the night before.
