The Wisdom of Emotions
with Mimi Valiulis
October 12 / 10:00 AM - October 13 / 5:00 PM
“Feelings like disappointment, embarrassment, irritation, resentment, anger, jealousy, and fear, instead of being bad news, are actually very clear moments that teach us where it is that we're holding back. They teach us to perk up and lean in when we feel we'd rather collapse and back away. They're like messengers that show us, with terrifying clarity, exactly where we're stuck. This very moment is the perfect teacher, and, lucky for us, it's with us wherever we are.” Pema Chödrön
Our emotions are the color and texture we seek in our lives. But how comfortable are we in expressing or even feeling our emotions? How often do we suppress them because we are afraid of being out of control or appearing inappropriate?
Over the course of the weekend we will be exploring our relationship with emotions: seeing where they are stuck, our learned and habitual ways of expressing them, how we battle with them. We will also be exploring all the healthy ways we work with our emotions. We will inquire into the buddhist teachings on the five buddha families to learn about the dimensions of emotion. Using meditation, gentle inquiry, discussion and exercises we will come closer to our true selves and leave with tools to further open to the fluid dance of our emotional lives.
