Bodhi School and Children's Blessing
with Ben Hines
December 1 / 10:30 AM - December 1 / 12:00 PM
Bodhi means “awake”! Bodhi School provides school-aged children aged 6 - 11with a spiritual education in the tradition of Shambhala Buddhism. Bodhi School lets children touch into their basic goodness in a nurturing and fun environment and experience their world more fully, as a way to instill confidence and kindness.
Public Talk: “Why Meditation Works” December 1, 2013 10:30 – 11:15
This talk will take place in the context of our normal Sunday meditation practice. We welcome parents of children attending Bodhi School to attend this talk during Bodhi School, and the talk is also open to everyone.
Bodhi School: December 1, 2013 from 10:30-12:00 (Includes a children’s blessing at 11:30)
We will start the day with sharing our practice calendars and review the different meditation techniques. In preparation for *Children’s Day on December 21 we will explain the event and help the children brainstorm some offerings that they can prepare at home.
As part of Bodhi school Shastri Ben Hines will be giving a talk and blessing for the children during the last half hour. Raising our children to know their own basic goodness, and that of others, is the very cornerstone of a good human society. A Children's Blessing in the Shambhala Buddhist context does not involve any sort of religious indoctrination; rather, it is a brief ceremony that allows children the opportunity to experience their own wakefulness in a powerful and playful setting. It provides a precious opportunity for families and children to make a connection with the Shambhala Centre and our community.
It is customary when receiving a blessing to offer a voluntary heart gift to the teacher.
