Shambhala Day 2014 - Year of the Wood Horse
March 2 / 9:00 AM - March 2 / 12:30 PM
Everyone is warmly invited to celebrate Shambhala Day 2014- the Year of the Wood Horse- at the Boulder Shambhala Center.
This year, we are honored to have Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche and the Sakyong Wangmo, Dechen Choying Sangmo, presiding over our celebration in Boulder.
SHAMBHALA DAY marks the beginning of the New Year, and represents one of the most important traditions of Shambhala Buddhism. Based on the traditional Tibetan New Year's celebration of Losar, the day is calculated astrologically according to the Tibetan lunar calendar, and changes every year to coincide with the annual lunar cycles.
Shambhala Day is a time for us to express the wealth and richness of our spiritual and cultural heritage through feasting, conviviality, elegance and pomp.
Shambhala Day Schedule:
Morning Chants and Shambhala Sadhana Feast (open to everyone)
Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche's annual Shambhala Day address to the worldwide Shambhala community - broadcast live from the Boulder Shambhala Center
Community Brunches Hosted by Boulder Shambhala Center Members (More information here)
A note to families:
Shambhala Day is a celebration for the whole family. Well-behaved children are welcome in the Main Shrine Room. Also, there will be a family room in the building where the Shambhala Day address will be simulcast, and child care will be available for those who wish to use this service. Families are welcome and encouraged to attend this important cultural celebration.
Will you host a brunch?
We have six community households who have already volunteered to host Shambhala Day brunches from 1-3pm, but we would love to have three more hosts. If you are interested, please contact Shelly Webb, Member and Volunteer Administrator, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 303-444-0190, ext. 125 to find out more.
We are seeking a crew of volunteers on Saturday, March 1 to clean the center and prepare for our Shambhala Day celebration. You can help out all day, or for just a couple of hours. CLICK HERE to see a list of volunteer positions, and to sign up for a shift. Thank you for your service to the community!
