WAY OF SHAMBHALA: Joy in Everyday Life (Westside)
with John Beard & Lisa Oxley
November 7 / 7:30 PM - December 5 / 9:30 PM
Prerequisites: Contentment in Everyday Life (CIEL). It is also highly recommended that students have taken Shambhala Training Level Three.
We often approach our lives with the idea that joy comes from the fulfillment of our personal desires. Through an exploration of the Buddhist teachings on intelligent compassion towards others, we begin to discover the confidence and inspiration for a life of cheerful discipline, health and bravery.
This is the third class in our core curriculum (http://la.shambhala.org/what-we-offer/the-way-of-shambhala/). The class includes meditation instruction, talks, periods of meditation practice, discussion, and a variety of contemplative practice activities.
John Beard is a senior student of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche and Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche. He has studied Buddhist teachings and practiced meditation for over 35 years and has taught Shambhala Training levels for over 25 years.
Lisa Oxley is a student of Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche and has been practicing meditation for over 10 years. She is also a contemporary artist and arts educator, interested in particular in the zone where aesthetics, mindfulness, creativity, and creating a wakeful human society overlap.
