This retreat builds on the discovery of basic goodness and introduces the foundational teachings of Buddhism. By seeing clearly the painful conditions and emotions that keep us trapped in habitual patterns, we can open further to our inherent goodness. This retreat trains us to develop gentleness, precision, appreciation, and steadiness. Practicing these qualities leads to contentment, which helps us extend our mindfulness practice into everyday awake action.
This second course in the Way of Shambhala curriculum, includes pre-recorded talks by Ashe Acharya John Rockwell. Group discussions and exercises will provide an opportunity to learn and deepen one’s understanding of meditation, with practical suggestions for bringing our personal sitting practice into our everyday lives. The class meets on FOUR Tuesday evenings and a Saturday morning.
There will be weekly optional reading from a number of books:
- Turning the Mind into an Ally and Ruling your World, by Sakyong Mipham and
- Shambhala Sacred Path of the Warrior and The Sanity We are Born With by Chogyam Trungpa
These books will also be used in later courses. Spirit Dancer Bookstore, located nearby the center at 125 South Winooski Avenue, bulk orders these books for our classes. Call Spirit Dancer to pre-order your copies. 660-8060
This class meets on Four Tuesday evenings and a Saturday morning.
