A suggested donation of $10 is requested.
We invite you to the San Antonio Meditation Center’s Mandala viewing of “An Uncommon King” documentary movie seventeen years in the making, which follows the life story of Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, spiritual leader of Shambhala International. We watch and learn about his father, Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche’s, escape over the mountaintops of Tibet, the Sakyong’s birth in a refugee camp in India, growing up in Colorado and finally taking up the mantle after his father’s death and teaching around the world. It is a father/son story that embraces the universal themes of family, heritage and cultural survival. But above all, it is a story about basic goodness.
Because he was born in the East and raised in the West he is the perfect messenger to deliver these teachings. He knows both cultures inside out. In his journey to fulfill his father’s mission he runs marathons, writes books, works with musicians, artists and professionals of all stripes. As the spiritual head of Shambhala, a global community with over 200 meditation centers, he travels extensively to teach and train individuals to make a difference in the world. Being brave enough to be gentle lies at the heart of the wisdom he is responsible for transmitting. In Shambhala, this is known as warriorship.
Please join us on Friday, August 9th, 2013 @ 6:00PM -10:00PM as we join and eat pizza, view the movie and share our stories of our experiences with the Sakyong.
