Parinirvana Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche

April 4 is the observance of the 27th anniversary of the Parinirvana (death of an enlightened being) of the Vidyadhara, Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. On this day the Shambhala sangha gathers to practice what Trungpa Rinpoche taught us, appreciate how his teachings have impacted our lives, and gain inspiration to fulfill his vision to benefit the world. The following is a schedule of events; please feel free to come to any part of the evening or to the whole night. Light food and beverages will be provided.


  • 6:00- Practice session of the Sadhana of Mahamudra.

Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche wrote the Sadhana of Mahamudra in 1968 while staying in   the cave at Taksang in Bhutan. The Sadhana of Mahamudra invokes the wrathful manifestation of Padmasambhava, called Dorje Trolö, to help us overcome obstacles and confusion in our time. It is an advanced vajrayana style practice, which are normally restricted, though this practice is open to all. This practice is considered to be a mind treasure (terma) of Padmasambhava.

  •  7:00- 30 minute video of a talk from Trungpa Rinpoche

This interesting and entertaining talk was given in 1976 at Naropa Univeristy and is titledv“Shunyata: Emptiness, Between That and This, Beyond Concept”. The video was provided by the Shambhala Archives specifically to commemorate this event.

  •  7:30- Miksang Activity

Miksang is the practice of contemplative photography based on the Shambhala and Dharma Art teachings of Chögyam Trungpa, Bring your camera or cell phone and sense of curiosity as we explore this practice and create some dharma art to display around the center!

  •  8:00- Cake, toasts and good conversation with basically good people!
