Sadhana of Mahamudra

October 23 / 7:00 PM - October 23 / 8:30 PM

The Sadhana of Mahamudra was written by the founder of Shambhala International in a retreat cave in Bhutan. It brings together two streams of teachings in which the Vidyadhara Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche had trained in Tibet. Written originally in Tibetan, it was translated by the Nalanda Translation Committee under his direction and given to our sangha for practicing at our centres by anyone inspired to do so. This practice is meant for our particular time as a means of overcoming the obstacles of spiritual materialism in our practice, our lives and the world. If you have questions about this practice, please feel free to contact us at:

This is a self-run practice. Please check this spreadsheet to see if an umdze has been confirmed to lead the day's practice. If there is no one confirmed for the practice, please assume it has been cancelled.

This is a self-run practice. We would like to invite qualified umdzes to volunteer their time by signing up on this spreadsheet.

Umdze Training
Please consider training as a qualified umdze if you are so inspired but have not yet had the occasion to lead the practice. 'Qualified' ideally means 'having attended Vajrayana Seminary or its equivalent', but those who have not done so but are experienced in the practice, please contact for more information about leading the practice.

If there is no umdze confirmed for the day, please assume that the practice is cancelled. Traditionally, this practice is done on the new and full moons of each month. However, due to the fullness of our calendar and scarcity of umdzes, we have chosen only one of these days per month in the coming year.

Check the monthly calendar for updates.
