Who Am I? The Basic Goodness of Being Human, Mondays in Canton
with Richard Weiner
August 5 / 7:00 PM - September 9 / 8:30 PM
The first course in the Basic Goories focuses on the sense of self by asking the question “Who am I?”. It includes teachings on basic goodness, selflessness, the arising of ego and cocoon, buddha nature, and the confidence of warriorship. We will practice contemplative investigations of the self, based upon the Foundations of Mindfulness.
Prerequisite: a previous Shambhala course or weekend.
Reading: The Shambhala Principle by Sakyong Mipham. Book will be available at class.
Here is a nine-minute introductory video from Acharya Lobel.
PLEASE NOTE: You will be receiving instructions in a new form of meditation practice called "Shambhala Meditation," which was recently developed by the Sakyong.
This instruction will be presented in an online format, at the beginning of the first class, and will form the basis of this course. You must receive this instruction before attending this class, if you have not already received it from the Sakyong, online or in person.
If you have to miss the first class, please contact Richard Weiner at firstname.lastname@example.org to make other arrangements.
Please also note that this course is not a replacement or substitute for the temporary Way of Shambhala II classes that included Karma, Lojong, etc. These are separate classes taught separately. The Basic Goodness Series is its own course.
