Meditate for a week or the full month of Dathun
a retreat in the Colorado Rocky Mountains
Weekthun is an intensive, week-long meditation retreat for new and experienced meditators interested in deepening their mindfulness-awareness. As part of the month-long Dathun program, there are four successive Weekthuns which can be taken individually or in combination. Through these immersive weeks, the practice of meditation goes beyond the cushion, with every aspect of daily life becoming a practice of wakefulness and an opportunity to make better friends with ourselves and our world.
“It’s the kindest thing you can do for the people around you—become a gentler person.” – Acharya Allyn Lyon, senior teacher for the 2013 Summer Weekthun
Immerse yourself in a rich retreat environment designed to support, expand and deepen your experience
Nestled high in the Colorado Rockies in a serene 600-acre valley surrounded by rocky peaks, pine and aspen forests, Shambhala Mountain Center provides an inspiring, safe and supportive container for fully immersing yourself in meditation.
Every day of a Weekthun is full of traditional practices carefully designed to cultivate mindfulness-awareness. There will be one-on-one meditation instruction and guided meditations to deepen shamatha (“peaceful abiding” meditation), contemplative practices to nurture insight and open-heartedness, daily talks from a senior teacher to enrich wisdom, Lu Jong stretches to bring body and mind in synchronicity and mindful walks through the beautiful terrain of the Colorado Rocky Mountains to practice meditation in action.
Attend a Weekthun this Summer
Enjoy the richness of nature in bloom at a Summer Weekthun. Practices are often done outside in large, airy tents among the fresh pine and fragrant summer breezes.
This year, beloved senior teacher Acharya Allyn Lyon will be leading all four of the Summer Weekthuns from July 24-August 21. To read more on Acharya Lyon, check out a recent interview with her at SMC.
