Shambhala Training Level I: Weekend Retreat

Through the practice of meditation, we begin to glimpse that goodness—rather than confusion—is the unconditional ground of our existence. Opening to ourselves with gentleness and appreciation, we begin to see our potential as genuine and compassionate human beings.

This weekend retreat introduces participants to the practice of sitting meditation and to the basic principles of the Shambhala path of warriorship. There is a fundamental, good energy present in all of our experience, and this basic goodness, innate to the way things are, is our own inborn, unconditional nature as well.   The retreat includes meditation instruction with periods of sitting and walking meditation practice, formal talks, and discussion.

Shambhala Training Level I is part of The Way of Shambhala, a structured path of training in authentic meditation practices and teachings that is open to people of all religious backgrounds as well as those who do not follow a particular spiritual path.

We encourage Level I participants to also take Meditation in Everyday Life, a 5-week course that is a companion to the weekend retreat.


Shambhala Training Level I has no prerequisites – everyone is welcome.


Suggested donation: $150/$125 if prepaid three weeks prior to the start of the program.
