The teachings on Lojong, or training the mind, are essential teachings on developing genuine compassion on the path of meditation. Based on the seven points of training of the 10th century Indian teacher, Atisha Dipankara, these pithy slogans are tools for developing openness and skill in helping others. They are as helpful and relevant today as they were 1000 years ago.
During this five week class we will learn and practice the core meditation of Lojong - tonglen or "sending and taking" practice - and study the Lojong slogans in detail. By the end of the course, the student will have a solid understanding of tonglen practice and a thorough familiarity with the Lojong slogans. The combination of tonglen and the slogans is the foundation for practical compassionate action in our lives.
The Lojong slogans have been taught by many teachers in the West, including Pema Chodron, Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, Traleg Rinpoche, and many others.
