Refreshing Our View and Practice: A Community Building Workshop for Meditation Instructors and Shambhala Guides
with Dale Asrael & Fred Jaben
August 10 / 9:00 AM - August 10 / 4:00 PM
This continues SMCD's series of workshops aimed toward providing support to our Denver community of Meditation Instructors, Assistant Directors, and Shambhala Guides through skill enhancement, mutual sharing, and peer mentorship.
To lead this exploration, and to share their knowledge and experience, we are delighted to host Acharya Dale Asrael, Shambhala Dean of Meditation Instructors, and Fred Jaben, Senior Teacher and Head of Meditation Instruction at SMCD. We will also be hosting the live Shambhala Online broadcast of Acharya Asrael’s address to the worldwide community of Meditation Instructors and Shambhala Guides, “Giving Initial Meditation Instruction: Feeling and Embodiment.”
The Sakyong is emphasizing the crucial importance of transmitting the essence or spirit of meditation as well as technique, and of the human to human exchange that takes place between instructor and student—helping to create the conditions for the student to make their own discoveries rather than “instructing or teaching,” per se.
We are gradually shifting the way initial meditation instruction is given at our Centers, and it is highly recommended that all Meditation Instructors and Guides stay current with these changes. This workshop will be relevant in your work as a meditation teacher and in deepening your own practice. We will also establish opportunities for mentorship of Shambhala Guides by Meditation Instructors.
