First Thursday Open House & Dharma Night: Open Awareness / Embodied Presence
June 6 / 7:00 PM - June 6 / 8:30 PM
These informal events serve as an introduction to our Center, to Shambhala Buddhism and the practice of peaceful abiding meditation, as well as an opportunity for our current friends and members to share in the Dharma.
We begin our Open House evenings at 7:00 p.m. with meditation instruction and a short period of sitting meditation practice. At around 7:30, we provide either a short Dharma talk or video followed by a group discussion.
Afterwards, we adjourn for tea and snacks in our cafe-style community room and chat with Shambhala practitioners and other visitors.
There's plenty of time for visitors to ask any questions they may have and also to explore in greater depth the topic of the evening. The evening ends between 8:30 and 9:00.
Our guest speaker for June is Charity Martin. Her program is entitled:
Open Awareness -- Embodied Presence
The Essential Role of the Body in Meditation Practice. Or: How to Stop Struggling and Start Trusting!
In this talk with guided experiential exercises we will explore how the lived experience of the body allows us to open to our natural sense of ease, grounding, and belonging which is so essential to practice and to the discovery of our essential nature.
Charity Martin is a practitioner of Rosen Method Bodywork and Somatic Experiencing Trauma Resolution with a private practice in San Francisco. She has been a student of the Shambhala lineage for 25 years, is a meditation instructor and Shambhala Training Director.
Charity has served as Bay Area secretary to Pema Chodron for 20 years. She regularly teaches Body and Meditation workshops in northern California.
We look forward to meeting you!
