Pema Chodron Birthday Retreat - Hyde Park

July 14 / 9:00 AM - July 14 / 4:00 PM

For the second time, Pema is asking her friends and students to gather together in meditation to celebrate her birthday. Once again, she has made a video of a teaching just for this occasion, offering advice, encouragement, and meditation instruction. Pema’s deepest hope is that this will help us plant the seed of peace in our own hearts, in our homes and in our communities. Join thousands from around the world to help make this a reality.

Join us in the inspiring setting of Bond Chapel at the University of Chicago to watch the video, meditate, and support the work of the Pema Chodron Foundation.

Location: Bond Chapel, 1025 East 58th Street (attached to the University of Chicago Divinity School).

Time: Registration: 8 am; Retreat: 9 am - 4 pm with a break for lunch (out) from noon till 1 pm. For the benefit of those who cannot attend the whole day, Pema's recorded talk will be shown twice: once in the morning and once at 12:30 pm, just prior to the start of the afternoon session. In order to maintain a supportive retreat container, please allow time to register prior to the session start time (9 am or 1 pm).

Beginning meditators are welcome. Meditation Instruction will be given.  If you have one, please bring your own meditation cushion. There will be a mixture of chairs and meditation cushions available.

In accordance with Pema Chodron's request, if you have the means to do so, a $50 donation is suggested to support Pema's project to construct a three-year-retreat center for Buddhist nuns in Nepal. All proceeds will be given to the Pema Chodron Foundation (after program expenses)

The Shambhala Generosity Policy applies to this event. Please do not allow financial limitations to keep you from participating in this meditation retreat. No payment is required. Pay as you are able.

The space for this program is being generously offered by the University of Chicago Office of Spiritual Life.
