Creating a Gentle and Sacred World: Weekthün
with Acharya Allyn Lyon

Since we create the world that we experience, why not create one that is gentle and sacred?  Explore this question under the guidance of Acharya Allyn Lyon.

What is this program?

An all-day group meditation retreat for a week with talks from a senior teacher in the Shambhala lineage This week-long meditation retreat counts towards the weekthün requirement for Enlightened Society Assembly or Warrior Assembly.

Intensive meditation practice enables us to experience a profoundly fresh view of our lives. Engaging in such practice in a group setting provides powerful support for this process and a rich training ground for the creation of a compassionate society.

You are invited to participate for the entire week, for Memorial Day weekend, for several days, or for just a day.  Arrange a schedule that works with the time you have available.

Meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) will be provided so that we can maintain our meditative discipline without interruption.

Who is Acharya Allyn Lyon?

Acharya Lyon is a senior teacher in the Shambhala Buddhist tradition. She has served as director of Shambhala Mountain Center and has taught at Vajradhatu Seminary. Since being appointed as an Acharya by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche in 2000, she has traveled extensively in both North and South America leading meditation workshops and teaching Shambhala training programs. She currently serves as resident acharya at the Shambhala Centers in Mexico and in Los Angeles, California. Allyn is known for the clarity and directness of her teaching and for her irreverent sense of humor.

Who should attend?

Beginning meditators as well as experienced meditators benefit from intensive group meditation. Join us if you can.  We may have some sangha housing available for out-of-towners.

We will hold a parallel retreat for senior Shambhala practitioners in a tent outside. This will be limited to those accepted as Vajrayana students by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche. This Vajrayana retreat will include a study component.

What are the prerequisites?

There are no practice or program prerequisites. We do ask for a practice commitment while at the retreat.  So:

  • Plan your retreat.

  • Practice all day every day if you can.

  • If you can only sit every evening or every afternoon that will be fine.

  • If you can only join us for two or three days we will be pleased to practice with you.

  • We ask that you create a schedule for yourself in advance and share it with the program coordinators.

How can I get Shambhala program credit for this retreat?

  • Weekthün credit: You will need to practice all day every day for the full week.

  • Weekend program with an acharya: You will need to practice two full days in a row.

What is the fee?

Recommended donation to cover program costs: $50/day, $350/week.

Discounts up to 30%

10% discount for joining us for the whole week.

10% discount for members of a Shambhala Center.

10% discount for registering online by April 30.

Value proposition: Consider that a weeklong program at Shambhala Mountain Center  will set you back $550 to $1100, plus transportation to northern Colorado. This retreat is a bargain.

Bottom line: Join us even if you cannot afford the recommended donation. Contribute what you can.  Contribute more if you can, because some of us cannot afford the recommended donation.
