April 20 / 9:30 AM - April 20 / 3:00 PM
This Sanghafest is comprised of the different Buddhist traditions now operating in Davis. In addition to our Shambhala tradition, the other participating groups are: Davis Insight, Bird Path Zen and Fresh Breeze Sangha which follows the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh. Each tradition has offered a chant to be chanted by the entire group that day. We will begin with the Davis Insight group and will chant their Invocation. Following that, our own Rebekka Martorano, will speak briefly about and lead our lineage chant. After this, the group will meditate for approximately 30 mins. The Bird Path Zen group will then pick up and lead us in a walking meditation around the beautiful grounds of the Unitarian Church for another 30 mins. We will all re-convene in the main worship hall for a brief sit. The Fresh Breeze group will lead us in the 5 contemplations of food.. This lunch will be about an hour to an hour and a half. We’ll have time for plenty of great conversation. After lunch the Fresh Breeze group will lead us in a guided meditation. We will end up our day with their version of the Bodhisattva Vow and Dedication of Merit.
The Main Worship hall at the Unitarian Church is stocked with chairs. If someone wants to meditate using a zabuton and gomden, they can either bring their own or if we can get a "head count" of how many people will be coming from our sangha and if they want to sit on the floor, we can transport the cushions over and back.
This event is FREE! All we are asking is for everyone to please bring their own lunch and water and cup for drinking tea...AND a box of tea they would like to share with others, it can be either herbal or tea with caffeine. The church will supply the hot water for tea.
