The Stable Mind
with Jeffrey Stevens
April 11 / 7:00 PM - May 23 / 9:00 PM
Starting on May 15th for four consecutive Thursday nights, the Shambhala Meditation Center of Denver will host The Stable Mind, a meditation workshop with Shastri Jeffrey Stevens.
Meditation should not be mysterious. The instructions given in Shambhala centers are pure and authentic, coming directly from the 2,500 year tradition begun in India even before the time of the Buddha. They work, as countless generations have demonstrated. If you follow the instructions correctly—and in detail—you will develop a mind that is stable, clear, and very strong. But following the instructions depends on genuinely understanding how to engage the mind in meditation from the beginning of each session right through to the end. Once we are on track with these instructions, we will feel confident that our practice is heading in the right direction, session after session. We will also know how to evaluate our meditation, and will know when to seek further clarification from texts or teachers.
This workshop will present the classical teachings that practitioners have used to develop stability and concentration, and offer a forum for students to clarify their understanding. We will apply these teachings together in a workshop environment to sharpen our meditative skills, and will employ a clever system to track our progress. This format will appeal to new and experienced meditators.
Prerequisites: Recommended (but not required) that you have received an introducton to Shambhala Meditation Instruction through an Open House or other Shambhala program.
