July 19 / 6:00 PM - July 27 / 10:00 AM
The Shambhala Buddhist lineage holds three profound streams of teaching: The Shambhala terma, Dzogchen, and Mahamudra.
Mahamudra, the "great seal,” established as the basis for our vajrayana path by the Vidyadhara, Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche and encouraged by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, is revered as a powerful support for all other tantric practices. It is also extremely simple and direct. It is focused on recognizing and gaining confidence in the true nature of mind through direct experience--the essence of all vajrayana practice.
Open to Students who are part of the Mahamudra Forum on the Shambhala Network
The program will include practice, study time, discussion and teachings. Recorded teachings from the Shamatha Mahamudra series by Acharya Eric Holm, the Dorje Lopön Lodro Dorje, from September 2012 through June of 2013 (Shambhala Online) will be our major resource. This retreat will prepare students to continue in the Fall of 2013 with the Vipashyana Mahamudra teachings of Wangchuk Dorje IX Karmapa and Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso, as presented by Lodro Dorje. (For some, the retreat will be a review, while others may not have completed these Shamatha Mahamudra materials. Questions can be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org)
The retreat will begin on Friday evening, July 19th, and continue through Thursday evening, July 25th. It will end with a celebratory evening meal on Thursday, and participants are encouraged to stay until chores are completed Friday morning. (Partial attendance permitted)
The pre-requisite is attendance at Shambhala Vajrayana Seminary or Sacred World Assembly. This retreat is appropriate for tantrikas at all levels of practice.
