Mindfulness and Awareness: An Essential Introduction to Meditation

with Acharya Adam Lobel

April 3    6:00-8:00

Meditation is increasingly recognized as an effective method of stress reduction and mental training. Mindfulness techniques are successfully used in hospitals, schools, government and military organizations, and corporations. Meditation is also a traditional path to liberation and the development of unconditional awareness. Within these various approaches to meditation—from the medical to the transcendent—what is the essence of meditation? Acharya Adam Lobel, a Buddhist minister, meditation teacher, and scholar, will get to the heart of meditation by exploring teachings on mindfulness and awareness. The talk will include historical and practical information as well as direct experience, with an emphasis on how to establish a meditation practice in everyday life. Please join us for this rare introduction to meditation practice with an open, authentic, and fresh approach.

Adam Lobel, MDiv Harvard Divinity School, Kalapa Acharya (senior teacher) is a Buddhist minister and scholar in the Shambhala tradition. He leads meditation seminars around the world, working directly with Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche and Pema Chödron. Adam has taught meditation in both traditional religious and secular settings as well as with incarcerated adolescents. He is responsible for training and authorizing meditation teachers as well as developing the core path of study and practice in Shambhala. He is a doctoral candidate at Harvard University. Adam is also active in contemplative approaches to social transformation and ecological action.
