Touching the Earth: SUMMER Sustainability and Spirituality Conference

September 8 / 9:30 AM - September 8 / 4:30 PM

We Are All Immigrants Here: The Sustainability and Spirituality Summer Workshop at Windhorse

On Sunday, September 8, we will take time to celebrate our diverse heritage and the experiences that led us to make our home on this land.  We all are relative newcomers here.  (Even the original peoples who inhabited the land around Windhorse had to wait for the glaciers to retreat a mere 15,000 years ago!)  The richness of summer all around us now is the best way to experience what drew us here in the first place.  With summer as our backdrop we might ask, what did we bring along from our various cultures and traditions, and what remains?  How have we adapted to this place on the earth as generations have taken root upon this ground?

Please join us for an extraordinary day in which we will share our family and cultural histories, as well as explore the choices we have made to make this land our home and how they have impacted our lives.  As is our practice, we will provide an open environment where all participants can learn, share, and celebrate through contemplation/meditation, small group discussions, and experiential activities on the beautiful Windhorse and High Wind land.  Participants are encouraged to bring photographs and other materials that illustrate their ancestry and heritage.  If you are a more recent immigrant, we will be delighted to see photos of the land from which you came and your fresh impressions of your new home.  We are also planning to have a few surprise guests from the local community who can tell us more about this special part of Wisconsin.  By the end of the day we will have assembled a collage of words and pictures that help us to appreciate the tapestry of our lives on this earth.

We will begin our day at 9:30 am, break for lunch (provided), and end our day at 4:30 pm.  Wear comfortable clothes that will allow you to take short hikes and sit outside.  The fee for the day is $50, with scholarships available for those who need them.  Those who wish to stay over on Saturday and/or Sunday evenings may do so at the low rate of $40 per night.  Please register as soon as you can because space is limited.  For more information call…

*No one will be turned away if they cannot afford the program, but please indicate this in advance as there is a need for volunteer help, if possible.
