Walking The Tiger's Path: A Soldier’s Spiritual Journey in Iraq
with Paul Kendel
April 12 / 7:00 PM - April 12 / 9:00 PM
Join us for and evening lecture and book signing with SSG. Paul Kendel, who is a former Georgia National Guardsman stationed in Iraq in 2005-6. Within a matter of weeks Paul became disillusioned with the American mission and with the aggression starting to overwhelm members of his unit. He found himself reading Sakyong Mipham’s book Turning the Mind into an Ally and resonating with its message of how to calm the mind and develop an attitude of openness and empathy toward one’s self and the world. Paul returned from Iraq and has completed a memoir detailing his experiences applying meditation principles in a combat zone called Walking the Tiger’s Path: A Soldier’s Spiritual Journey in Iraq, which won the 2011 USA Book News Best Books award; the 2012 International Book Awards; and the 2012 Nautilus Silver Awards Winner.
“Sergeant Kendel has shown great conviction while faced with the brutality of human aggression, constantly using compassion and a meditative mind. He was therefore on the front line of applying contemplative discipline. This book reveals that extraordinary journey.”--Sakyong Mipham
