Refuge & Bodhisattva Vows
with Emily Bower
May 16 / 6:00 PM - May 16 / 8:00 PM
The Tucson Shambhala Meditation Center will offer Refuge and Bodhisattva Vows with Acharya Emily Bower
To take refuge is to commit ourselves to the Buddhist path of awakening. We take refuge in the Buddha as an example, the dharma as truth, and the sangha as a community of fellow practitioners. It is the initial vow of the Buddhist tradition and marks our formal entry onto the path. Having taken the refuge vow and entered onto the path of the dharma, we can expand and deepen our commitment by taking the Bodhisattva Vow. With the Bodhisattva Vow, we dedicate ourselves and all that we do to the benefit of all sentient beings.
Open to anyone who has the sincere aspiration to take the vow and has practiced meditation for a while. Complete a Refuge Vow Class to be held in May (exact dates to be determined) in preparation for the vow.
Having taken refuge at least six months prior to the Bodhisattva Vow, and have approval from a senior meditation instructor.
Sourcebooks for both Refuge and Bodhisattva Vows will be available for purchase at the center.
To take either vow please ask your Meditation Instructor to forward your name and request to Gail McDonald, Director of Practice and Education at firstname.lastname@example.org
