SHAMBHALA DAY Tuesday February 12th
Shambhala New Year 2013: Year of the Water Snake
SHAMBHALA DAY marks the beginning of the New Year, and represents one of the most important traditions of Shambhala Buddhism. As is customary, Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche addresses the worldwide Shambhala community on Shambhala Day through an onlinehook-up, which includes centres and groups from six continents and over thirty countries around the world. Shambhala Day is a time for us to express the richness of our spiritual and cultural heritage through conviviality, elegance and generosity. Everyone is warmly invited to attend the Shambhala Day Community Celebrations!
This year the Auckland Centre is returning to our tradition of joining with our international sangha to celebrate Shambhala Day. The day will start at 6.45am with morning chants. We will then connect with Shambhala International for a roll call of all the centres. This is fun and gives us a real sense of connection with our huge Shambhala family. Following this, the Sakyong will give his Shambhala Day address which usually takes less than half an hour. We conclude this part of the day with a shared breakfast so please bring something to share. In order to cover costs, there is a ten dollar charge for the morning which will in effect be a donation to Shambhala International.
Although this is a very early start to the day, it is a very good start and we have always found it both enjoyable and uplifting. Please come!
