Annual cleaning of the Juneau Shambhala Center
February 2 / 8:00 AM - February 2 / 4:00 PM
Is your New Year’s resolution to work towards creating an uplifted and Enlightened Society? Wondering how you can make a difference? Well, here’s your hands-on opportunity.
Shambhala Day (February 11 this year) marks the beginning of the Tibetan new year, and is one of the most important traditions of Shambhala Buddhism. Part of our preparation for this special event is to thoroughly clean our center, removing old obscurations - including cobwebs, dirt, and whatever that is growing in our refrigerator – to prepare a fresh, uplifted environment to support our practice.
This year’s “spring cleaning” will be Saturday, February 2 starting at 8:00 am, but if you can't arrive until later, that's fine, too. And bail early if need be, but please pitch in whatever time you have available.
We will clean the main shrine room, community room and kitchen, office, and Gesar shrine room. Tasks include: dusting; washing the walls & windows (inside and out); cleaning the shrines; vacuuming and sweeping floors; cleaning the kitchen & fridge (extra merit).
Cleaning supplies will be provided, but we need a ladder, and it would help to bring your favorite implements, like pails, sponges, rags, etc.
